Droid screen going black after having it replaced?

my boyfriend had his screen replaced after it shattered a few months ago. well he said he has been having problems with the screen going black. he said he normally takes the battery out and then everything is fine. well yesterday, the battery coming out didnt help at all. the phone screen will not work, it just stays black.. what can he do?
