How go get AndChat to work on Verizon 3g internet?

I have a HTC Droid incredible 2, and I use an IRC client (AndChat) to chat with friends from games, but through some looking, found that IRC apps will not work on Verizon 3g phones. But, I also found somewhere that it is possible to use a SSH app to do tunneling. I was wording if someone could both confirm this and either post a guide or a link to guide that will let me run an IRC App using only the 3g. Thank you ahead of time!!
